"A man walks down the street in that hat, people know he's not afraid of anything."
This is the tl;dr version of my mission statement. For the full context, go here.
This blog is all about redefining what it means to suck at stuff. It's about letting go of the idea that we should aim to be the best at everything we do. All our lives, we've heard that we should dream big, that second place just isn't going to cut it. Meanwhile we try to hide our failure in an impenetrable ball of fear and shame.
But that's crap! If the internet has taught us anything, it is that no matter what you think you are good at, there are small children on Youtube who can do it better, and with more panache. We all suck when compared to other people.
And that's ok. If it wasn't, no one would ever do anything anymore. Why should only the best flute players enjoy the right to play the flute? That's just unfair flute hogging.
So I vote we re-learn to celebrate the glory of sucking at stuff, and change the meaning of the phrase "You suck!" to "Godspeed, brave warrior, many children will be named after you!". It's the best way to go out and have some fun for a change.
Also it's a killer immunization strategy if you have those voices in your head that won't let you.
I will share here the chronicles of my sucking, and hopefully inspire others to do the same.
If you're scared, that means it's working.
